Why is Micro-suctioning considered safer than Ear Syringing?

More GPs and ENTs are now referring patients for micro-suctioning. It is considered the safer alternative to remove ear wax. We use the latest dry-suction technology to clear ears of wax build-up that can interfere with hearing and hearing aid function.

Why is Micro-suctioning considered safer than Ear Syringing?

Ear Wax Microsuction

Micro-suction involves using a specialized instrument called a micro-suction probe, which is a low-pressure suction device that allows the healthcare professional to have precise control over the suction process. This helps in targeting and removing the earwax without causing any damage to the delicate structures of the ear.

Ear syringing involves flushing the ear canal with water or saline solution to dislodge the earwax. However, this method carries a risk of accidentally pushing the wax deeper into the ear canal or causing damage if the water pressure is too high. Additionally, excessive moisture in the ear can increase the risk of infection or irritation. Micro-suction, on the other hand, uses gentle suction without introducing any fluids, minimising the risk of water-related complications.

Micro-suction is considered safer for individuals who have a history of ear surgeries, perforated eardrums, or other ear conditions that may make them more susceptible to complications from ear syringing. It allows healthcare professionals to remove the wax without exposing the ear to excessive pressure or water.

During micro-suction, the healthcare professional uses a binocular microscope or an endoscope to get a clear view of the ear canal. This ensures better visibility and helps them avoid any accidental damage to the ear canal or eardrum.

Micro-suction is generally a more comfortable procedure compared to ear syringing. It typically involves minimal or no discomfort, as the healthcare professional can control the suction strength and perform the procedure with precision.
